After Summer

After a busy season I have a few moments to report on this summer's events. We had a great start with a featured artist show by Shella Robinson. Shella Robinson's new work is a study of the ruffle. She reinterprets the ruffle in silver, creating pieces that are playful and thoughtful. The show was a great success.

In July, artists Yevgeniya Kaganovich and Anya Kivarkis presented " White Out". The work in this show is a historical revision, a challenge of authoritarian luxury forms through alteration. Yevgeniya Kaganovich reconstructed the quintessential pearl necklace in rubber and plastic, bringing new life to a historical staple. Anya Kivarkis used forms and images from the Victorian and Baroque past, such as lace and the chandelier. She reinvents these forms in new ways, drippy and distorted.

Annie Hinkes and Stephanie Tomczak organized "Collision, Emerging Artists Exhibition" in August. The exhibition featured eight jewelers exploring ideas about jewelry. This refreshing show was full of young talent. The jewelry was beautiful and thought provoking.

September was a blur with two shows back to back. On the 14th the gallery hosted a benefit for VSA arts of Delaware. This show was comprised of paintings, prints, and sculptures by the cognitively disabled of Delaware. The artists were there to see their artwork on the walls and the community came out to support the important role art plays in the lives of everyone.

Heidi Lowe Gallery sponsored Re-Use on September 21st in conjunction with the Surfrider Foundation. The Surfrider Foundation is a national organization dedicated to ocean and beach preservation. The show is comprised of five artists that use recycled or re-used materials to create contemporary jewelry. The artist in this show are Jennifer Bradley, Mike Ruta, Sarah Kate Burgess, Uli Rapp, and Halligan Norris. It was a busy opening and a percentage of the proceeds went to help clean up the local beaches.

Fall is here and we are preparing for the annual "Multiples" show in November and next summers exhibitions. Keep an eye out for our website. Thanks for a great second summer. heidi
